Just Two Words

My brother sent me a text today and it contained just two words. Someone’s name. Suddenly a forgotten snippet of my life sparked memories. And they sparked more memories!

That’s what happens when we share memories. They help us know who we used to be and how we are now. Memories help us to see patterns in our lives. Seeing patterns can often help us avoid making the same mistakes.

Memories can also prompt us to reflect on what we have achieved in our lives and to celebrate the successes. They can also walk us back to times of embarrassment, guilt, regret, loss and anger. In all of this, we inevitably experience growth, new insights and perspectives. This is the work of being a human being.

It’s important for others to know who we are too, what our values are and how we have ‘lived’ them. This can have a profound effect on family members who follow us or others whose lives we have touched unknowingly.

So, think about it. Think about your life story and what you have to share. Maybe, you haven’t done any writing since your school days. That’s fine. You’ll have genuine, respectful support all the way to achieving your writing goals.
